Good care of my fish is of paramount importance to ensure that both the fish and lake stay healthy. The following simple rules apply:

  • No more than THREE anglers at any one time.
  • Maximum of 9 rods on the lake at any time.

  • Rods must not be left unattended whilst they are in the water.
  • Night fishing from bivvies only - (Not from the gite).

  • Barbless hooks only.

  • No fixed rigs.
  • No sacking of the Grass Carp
  • No bait boats.
  • No swimming in the lake.

  • Minimum 12lb line.

  • No Keep-nets.
  • No fires.
  • No radios.
  • Dogs must not be left unattended while off the leash.
  • No drunkeness while fishing. (One warning will be given & cease fishing)
  • No litter - please keep the peg clean of any man-made rubbish - including cigarette butts and bottle caps.

  • If you have any issues which have the potential to cause damage or injury to the fish, contact the proprietor IMMEDIATELY.

Constructed in 1982 the lake is 2.1 acres in size and has a natural source feed. Depth is 1.3 to 1.6 metres deep (depending on time of year) and runs to 4.7 to 5 metres deep, the bed is a mixture of sandy gravel around the shallow margins at 5-8 metres out to the centre the silt bed forms in the main channel.  The lake holds Grass, Common and Mirror Carp to 45lb 7oz plus Tench, Perch, Zander, Pike, Eels and Roach.

There are a small number of purpose built pegs, but we want you to have the freedom to fish where and how you like.  The carp have been introduced to boilies, they will also take sweetcorn/maize, Tiger Nut and occaisionally floating bread, although the latter method requires plenty of patience.  It's the ideal time and place to test out new rigs, different techniques or just enjoy spending time on the bank catching good quality fish. We do not cater for "Drive & Survive" nor do we allow day ticket fishing.

Boilies and ground bait are available onsite:  See details/prices on Tackle Hire and Bait page.

FAQ's

Once you've arrived and had a drink/rest I do a handover of the gite and if you want, I walk round the lake to lake layout, explain depths, lake bed composition, point out snags and favorite hangouts or spots where the fish are known to frequent or have been caught recently. I'm happy to answer any question and provide the latest updates on how the lake has been fishing.

Will I have trouble with weed?                      No, there is aquatic plant life around the lake edges out to approx 1.5m, but weed is not an issue here.

Are there any serious snags?                          Yes, there are two old oak tree stumps, their exact location is pointed out in the "Lake walk-around".

Are there restrictions on baits?                    No.

Will I be troubled by Crayfish?                      Occasionally. There are natural Eurasian Crayfish in the lake, they will go for boilies, depends on the flavour & location

you fish but 98% of anglers have no problems.

Can I use my bait boat?                                      No, unfortunately we do not allow use of bait boats.

Is there any silt?                                                    Yes, mainly in the deepest section (the basin by the dam wall), 85% of the lake bed is clear of silt and will not cause any

                                                                                       issues.

What baits work best?                                       Depends on time of year, presentation, volume of groundbait.  But personally I think the fish prefer the more

                                                                                      aquatic/marine based flavours.

What techniques produce?                             There are so many variable factors,  fishing hard on the bottom or pop-ups work well but pre-baiting effectively is key.

Are there any Catfish?                                        No, and it will remain that way!

Are there over-hanging trees?                        There are some medium sized ash trees and some small willows around the lake but these will not cause you issues as

                                                                                       they are "managed" each year.

Whats the best time to catch?                         Depends on time of year and temperature,  I will say this, as the tempreture goes up the fishing becomes harder

because the carp like to just cruise about.

Can I fish overnight?                                           Yes, but only if you are in a Bivvy, not from the gite.

If you are a carp angler, have you ever been to a venue and thought "I'd like this place all to myself"?  Well, here's your chance, why not spend your Carp fishing holiday in the peaceful surroundings of rural France, fishing the lake exclusively and still having all the modern conveniences of a well appointed Gîte.
